Iowa man arrested for abusing child for “several days”

CLERMONT, IA – Law enforcement worked with a mandatory child abuse reporter to put a man behind bars who was allegedly assaulting a child.

On April 30, 2015 the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office completed an investigation of a possible child abuse that occurred in Clermont, Iowa. After an investigation, it was learned that 45-year-old Stevie Burgess of Clermont had assaulted an 11-year-old male over the course of several days. The report stemmed from a mandatory reporter who noticed bruises on the child and the investigation concluded that Burgess had abused the child by assaulting him. Burgess was charged with Assault causing injury, a Serious Misdemeanor, and Child Endangerment, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. He was arrested and taken to the Fayette County Jail where he was held for an initial appearance.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Decorah Police Department and the Department of Human Services.
