MASON CITY – Reggi Spotts has added another major honor to an already remarkable basketball career.

The NIACC sophomore women’s basketball standout has been selected as the 2025-26 ICCAC female athlete of the year, one of the top individual honors given by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.

Spotts, a Nora Springs native and Mason City High School graduate, earned the award after a dominant season on the court, outstanding work in the classroom and a strong record of service to the NIACC campus and local community.

Other finalists for the prestigious honor were Iowa Central volleyball player Talya Sampson, Iowa Lakes wrestler Keyahna Phillips and Kirkwood softball player Shannon Finn.

Spotts becomes just the second NIACC female student-athlete to receive the ICCAC female athlete of the year award. NIACC women’s basketball player Autam Mendez won the honor in 2019-20. The conference began presenting the award in 2017-18.

“Reggi is one of the best players to ever play at NIACC,” NIACC women’s basketball coach Brad Vaught said. “What makes it even more special is she is an amazing person, too.

“Spotts clearly leaves a legacy at NIACC, making a positive difference that will be felt after she has moved on.”

That legacy includes one of the most productive seasons in NIACC women’s basketball history. Spotts averaged 18.8 points per game and scored 600 total points, the seventh-highest total in the NJCAA.

She helped lead the Trojans to back-to-back NJCAA Region 11-B championships and a trip to the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Division II national tournament. NIACC finished the season with a 28-4 record.

Spotts was named the ICCAC Player of the Year and earned first-team NJCAA Division II all-American honors, placing her among the top junior college players in the country.

Her success was not limited to basketball. Spotts was a four-time first-team ICCAC academic all-region selection, showing the same discipline in the classroom that made her one of the conference’s best athletes.

She also made an impact beyond games and grades. Spotts has served as a resident assistant, participated in the NIACC Lead Academy and helped with church events and other efforts to serve people in the community.

Spotts has signed a national letter of intent to continue her basketball career at Iowa State next season.

“Reggi is an outstanding person from a great family who really represents the Iowa State way,” Iowa State coach Bill Fennelly said. “She has had success in everything she has done both on and off the court.”

For NIACC, Spotts’ selection as ICCAC female athlete of the year caps a career defined by scoring, winning, leadership, academics and service. For North Iowa, it marks another proud moment for a local athlete whose next chapter will unfold on a Big 12 stage.
