CLEAR LAKE — Gary Leo Rehder, a proud United States Marine Corps veteran, classic-car enthusiast and former VFW commander who remained devoted to his extended family, passed away Monday, July 20, 2026, at his home in Clear Lake. He was 75.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be announced and held at a later date.
Gary will be laid to rest beside his mother, Monica Schanno Rehder, at St. John’s Cemetery in Vermillion, Minnesota.
Born May 16, 1951, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Gary was the son of Luverne and Monica Rehder. He attended Cannon Falls High School and graduated with the Class of 1969.
Following high school, Gary answered his country’s call and joined the United States Marine Corps. He served honorably until receiving his discharge in 1978, and his identity as a Marine remained an important source of pride throughout his life.
Gary continued serving fellow veterans as a member of Nelson-Schofield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4452 in Cannon Falls. His commitment and leadership eventually led him to serve as commander of the post.
Professionally, Gary spent much of his career working in the security industry. He later retired following his employment with Cargill.
Away from work, Gary enjoyed restoring classic automobiles with his nephew, James. Their projects provided an opportunity to share time, knowledge and an appreciation for bringing older vehicles back to life.
Family gatherings were especially meaningful to Gary. He made an effort to attend birthdays, holidays and other family occasions whenever possible, building memories with the siblings, nieces and nephews who remained an important part of his life.
Gary is survived by his brothers, Larry Rehder and his wife, Connie, and Daniel Rehder; his sister, Roberta Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luverne and Monica Rehder.
