MASON CITY – Two Mason City youths escaped injury in a July 2nd, 2013 crash that allegedly involved alcohol.
According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, 17 year-old Alexander Young was northbound on Nettle avenue just northwest of Mason City when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle proceeded to roll several times.
Both Young and the passenger, 18 year-old Alexander Bales, were uninjured at the time of the report.
Young was charged with failure to maintain control and possession of alcohol. Bales was charged with minor consumption.
Law enforcement indicated that both youths were taken from the scene of the accident by their parents. They did not disclose a hotline for problem drinkers.
Young is the son of Mason City’s City Attorney and former School Board member Mark Young, who recently resigned from the school board and is said to be pursuing a career in education.
Bales was charged with interference with official acts earlier this year by the Mason City Police Department, but he plead guilty to a lesser charge of “refusal to obey orders”. He paid $300.00 in court costs and fines in that case. Bales also plead guilty to possession of alcohol by underage person in April. He paid $330.00 in court costs and fines in that case.
