MASON CITY — The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors certified the results of the June 2, 2026 Primary Election during a special session on June 9, 2026, formally setting the list of Democratic and Republican nominees for several county offices that will appear on the November ballot.

The meeting began at 1:00 p.m. with Chairman Casey Callanan, Vice Chairman Carl Ginapp and Supervisor Chris Watts present, along with members of the public.

After approving the agenda and holding a public comment session, supervisors adopted Resolution 2026-41, which certified the county’s primary election results. The motion was made by Watts and seconded by Ginapp. It passed unanimously.

The canvass is the formal process in which county officials review and certify election results after Election Day. Under Iowa law, the county board of supervisors meets as the board of canvassers to declare the final results from the election.

According to the resolution, the board publicly opened and canvassed the tally lists from the June 2 primary and corrected any obvious clerical errors recorded in the canvass minutes. The Cerro Gordo County Commissioner of Elections also reported that one provisional ballot was accepted and counted.

The certified candidate list shows several contested and uncontested paths heading into the November 2026 general election, with some offices having no candidate filed from one major party.

DEMOCRATIC PARTY NOMINEES

County Supervisor District 2: Cody Williams

County Treasurer: No candidate filed

County Recorder: AnnMarie Legler

County Attorney: Kaitlyn Kemna Ausborn

REPUBLICAN PARTY NOMINEES

County Supervisor District 2: Casey M. Callanan

County Treasurer: Nikki Fessler

County Recorder: No candidate filed

County Attorney: No candidate filed

The District 2 supervisor race is now set as a head-to-head contest between Democratic nominee Cody Williams and Republican nominee Casey M. Callanan, the current chairman of the Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors.

The county treasurer race currently shows Republican Nikki Fessler as the only major-party nominee, with no Democratic candidate filed.

The county recorder race currently shows Democratic nominee AnnMarie Legler as the only major-party nominee, with no Republican candidate filed.

The county attorney race currently shows Democratic nominee Kaitlyn Kemna Ausborn as the only major-party nominee, with no Republican candidate filed.

The list certified by supervisors reflects the nominees produced by the June 2 primary process. The November general election will determine who ultimately fills the offices.

The special session was brief, lasting only six minutes. Supervisors adjourned at 1:06 p.m.

Video recording and documents associated with the meeting are available through Cerro Gordo County.
