MASON CITY — A wanted Northern Iowa suspect was nabbed Friday afternoon after police conducted an officer check and allegedly found him facing a warrant, license trouble and registration-related violations.
Vince Leroy Ankrum, 48, was arrested at 3:17 p.m. on June 12, 2026, after Mason City police conducted an officer check, according to police and jail records.
Ankrum (pictured at top) was booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail at 3:48 p.m.
Police records show Ankrum was arrested for failure to appear, driving while license denied, suspended, canceled or revoked, failure to provide proof of financial liability, operation without registration card or plate, and fraudulent use of registration.
Jail records list cash-only bond amounts in the defendant’s name, including $1,000, $175.75, $503.50 and $615.63.
The June 12 arrest also served a warrant in a pending Cerro Gordo County methamphetamine case.
Court records in case SRCR034874 show Ankrum was charged after an April 24, 2026, incident with possession of methamphetamine, first offense, a serious misdemeanor. A public bench warrant was issued June 10, with bond set at $1,000 cash only statewide. Court filings show the warrant was served June 12 after Ankrum was arrested by Mason City police.
The meth case remains pending, with no disposition listed in court records.
Ankrum also has a drunk-driving conviction out of Story County. Court records in case OWCR045657 show he was originally charged after a March 28, 2011, incident with operating while intoxicated, third offense, a Class D felony. Records show he later entered a negotiated guilty plea on August 22, 2011, to operating while intoxicated, second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Court financial records in that Story County case show Ankrum was assessed $3,387.45 in costs, fines and surcharges. Records show only $13.41 has been paid, leaving $3,374.04 still due to Iowa courts in that case.
Court records also show Ankrum has additional courtroom baggage in Cerro Gordo County. In a 2023 civil Petition for Relief from Domestic Abuse case, a judge entered a final protective order against Ankrum on May 30, 2023. Court filings also show an order for gun-right prohibition was entered the same day.
The protective order appears to remain in effect, based on the available court information. A temporary protective order had previously been issued May 17, 2023, and court records show Ankrum was served with that temporary protective order on May 18, 2023.
Ankrum’s name has surfaced before in a North Iowa traffic case.
In 2018, NorthIowaToday.com reported that Ankrum was cited after an alleged distracted-driving crash outside Mason City that caused a vehicle to roll over. Two people avoided injury in that crash, according to the previous report.

The latest arrest adds another chapter for Ankrum, who now faces the new driving and registration-related charges while the meth possession case continues in court.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation. Ankrum is presumed innocent on pending charges unless and until proven guilty in court.
