CHARLES CITY – Possible violent behavior has landed a Guatemalan man (who can’t seem to get a valid driver’s license) behind bars in Charles City.
The incident took place on the evening of September 23, 2025. At 10:19 PM that night, officers with the Charles City police department were called to the 1000 block of Terrace Road to investigate a report of domestic abuse. After an investigation, police arrested 22-year-old Linner Adolfo Escobar-Guzman of Guatemala on a charge of domestic abuse assault by impeding airflow (strangulation). This is a violation of Iowa code 708.2A(2)(d), an aggravated misdemeanor, if the domestic abuse assault is committed by knowingly impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the blood of another by applying pressure to the throat or neck of the other person or by obstructing the nose or mouth of the other person.
Guzman remains in the Floyd county jail after he was booked in at 10:56 PM Tuesday night. A judge imposed a no-contact order on him as he awaits a preliminary hearing set for the morning of October 13, 2025.
Records show Guzman was busted by the Floyd county sheriff’s office earlier this year in January for having no valid driver’s license, which cost him $354.00. Then, in August, he was nabbed by the Iowa State Patrol in Chickasaw county for speeding, no valid driver’s license, and no insurance. This cost him over $500.00 owed to Iowa courts.
