IOWA CITY — The University of Iowa women’s soccer team battled Kansas State to a 1-1 draw Thursday night at the Iowa Soccer Complex, with the Hawkeyes overcoming an early deficit and applying heavy pressure throughout the second half.
The draw moved Iowa to 4-1-1 on the season, while Kansas State remained unbeaten at 4-0-2.
Kansas State struck first in the 23rd minute when Allison Marshall found the back of the net to put the Wildcats ahead, 1-0.
Iowa answered shortly after halftime.
Berit Parten set up Reilly Heman in the 50th minute, and Heman buried the opportunity for her team-leading fourth goal of the season to even the match at 1-1.
The Hawkeyes continued attacking but could not break through again despite piling up a 25-11 advantage in shots. Kansas State goalkeeper Maddie Sibbing finished with eight saves to keep Iowa from producing the game-winning goal.
“The level of pressure from both teams was intense,” Iowa head coach Dean Ward said. “We didn’t control the game, it was a game of chaos. Kansas State made it really difficult. I think we had some territorial advantage, but I don’t think we did good enough to give ourselves proper chances.”
Freshman Iowa goalkeeper Braelynn Galt made a season-high four saves and nearly produced one of the night’s most unusual moments, putting a free kick on goal in the 90th minute.
Galt became the first Iowa goalkeeper to record a shot on goal since Oct. 12, 2025.
Iowa has now outshot its opponents 139-33 through six matches this season.
Heman’s four goals lead the Hawkeyes, while Parten’s assist increased her team-leading total to 10 points.
Sara Batchadji and Millie Greer each played the full 90 minutes, marking the third time this season both Hawkeyes have gone the distance.
Thursday’s matchup was the first-ever meeting between Iowa and Kansas State.
Iowa returns to action Sunday when the Hawkeyes host Missouri State at the Iowa Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for noon. The match will be streamed on B1G+, and admission is free.
