Should state spend “rainy day” fund?

NIT – Democrats are crying foul over House Republicans’ refusal to spend any amount from a massive “rainy day fund”, an impasse that is keeping the legislature in session.

The staunch right-wingers’ continue to balk at spending the mountain of cash and Democrat Sharon Steckman said Friday that’s “the crux of the problem at the Iowa State Capitol” at this time as politicians battle it out over mental health and education funding.

“The Governor, Senate and Dept. of Management agree,” Representative Steckman said, that some of the cash could be spent this session to move things along and find a compromise. “The Speaker of the House Paulsen does not.”

Mrs. Steckman says that the state surplus is “close to 10% (over $700 million, higher than almost any other state)” and House Republicans are steadfast “that will not be touched.”

What do you think. Should Republicans in the House cave, and spend some money on education and mental health from the surplus?

Here you all can see the BIG difference between Democrats and Republicans.

Democrats are ok with spending more than they tax you and are wiling to run up more debt and increase taxes.

Republicans want to hold the line on spending and keep our tax burden to a minimum.

The Democrats know full well there is no such thing as “rainy day funds”. The money they speak of spending is the “reserve funds” set aside for emergency spending.

In the event the state is taking in to…

In the event the state has taken in to much tax money then our income tax rates should be reduces or every tax paying Iowan should be sent a refund check returning the exrta tax money the State has over collected!

Absolutely not. She is one of the spend sisters. That is all she knows is to spend, spend, spend. If she had her way she would spend every penny and then want to raise taxes.

Steckie is a broken record. Let’s spend more money on education. My constituents want it. She knows nothing else. According to her, we don’t need no stinking rainy day fund.
