CLEAR LAKE — Craig Barton Skott, 78, of Clear Lake, passed away September 23, 2026, at the IOOF care facility in Mason City from complications of Parkinson’s disease, with his longtime partner, Nancy Sevley, beside him.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Sunday, September 27, from 2–4 p.m. at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake.
A second gathering will be held October 10 from 1–3 p.m. at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, followed by graveside services at Buckhorn Cemetery.
Raised on a farm near Buckhorn, Craig graduated from Iowa State University in 1971 with an architecture degree. His work included Lime Creek Nature Center, Clear Lake condominiums and facilities serving communities across Iowa.
Beyond buildings, Craig helped create lasting connections. A founding member of River City Rugby in 1972, he shared decades of competition and friendship with teammates. Travel with Nancy combined his interests in architecture and rugby.
He also established scholarship funds through foundations supporting Mason City schools, Greater Dubuque and Iowa State, helping students pursue opportunities of their own.
Craig is survived by Nancy, cousins and Nancy’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His parents, Oskar and Camilla, and brother, Owen, preceded him in death.
