IOWA CITY — Iowa Hawkeye soccer overwhelmed Missouri State from the opening minutes Sunday afternoon, allowing just one shot while cruising to a 3-0 victory at the Iowa Soccer Complex to close out nonconference play.
The Hawkeyes improved to 5-1-1 and finished their nonconference schedule with the same record for the second straight season. Missouri State fell to 2-4-1.
Iowa entered the match after battling Kansas State to a 1-1 draw Thursday night, but there was little drama this time.
Reilly Heman struck almost immediately.
The Iowa forward scored in the third minute against her former team, finishing an assist from Sara Batchadji to give the Hawkeyes a 1-0 advantage.
Berit Parten doubled the lead in the 27th minute, scoring her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Elle Wildman.
Iowa completely suffocated the Bears during the opening half, outshooting Missouri State 19-0 and taking 10 corner kicks before halftime.
The assault continued after the break.
Kylie Cino made it 3-0 in the 66th minute after combining with Lucia Englund and Parten. The goal was Cino’s third of the season and tripled her collegiate career total entering the year.
Missouri State did not record its first — and only — shot until the 72nd minute.
Iowa finished with a staggering 27-1 advantage in shots and dominated corner kicks 14-1. The Hawkeyes controlled 62 percent of possession and spent 65 percent of that possession in the attacking half.
“I have to credit the whole group for implementing changes after Thursday’s match,” Iowa head coach Dean Ward said. “We had 27 shots and only three goals, so we’d want a bit more production and quality but I’m pleased to score three goals against a good team on a Sunday after a tough game.”
Heman continues to lead Iowa’s scoring attack.
Her fifth goal of the season matched her career high for goals in a season, while Parten’s goal and assist increased her team-leading point total to 13.
Parten has recorded at least one point in every match in which Iowa has scored this season.
Wildman’s assist pushed her season total to nine points, already a career high, while Batchadji recorded her first assist of the year and became the 10th different Hawkeye to register an assist.
The shutout was Iowa’s fourth of the season.
The Hawkeyes have now outscored opponents 23-4 and hold a massive 166-34 advantage in shots through seven matches.
Iowa has also never lost to Missouri State, improving to 3-0-1 in the all-time series. The one shot allowed Sunday was Iowa’s lowest total surrendered since holding George Mason to one attempt on Sept. 10, 2023.
The offensive performance continued an impressive start for an Iowa team that opened the season with a record-setting 7-0 destruction of Milwaukee and followed with a 5-0 shutout of Loyola.
Iowa also recently hammered Iowa State 2-0 in the Cy-Hawk soccer showdown, holding the Cyclones to just two shots.

The Hawkeyes now turn their attention to Big Ten Conference play.
Iowa will travel to Minnesota for its conference opener Thursday at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
