CLIVE, Iowa – The last of nine top prizes of $50,000 available in the Iowa Lottery’s “Mike’s Picks” scratch game was claimed Monday by a Mason City woman.
Corey Jones said she stopped Sunday at Kum & Go, 1224 N. Federal Ave. in Mason City to buy something to drink and a lottery ticket, and she ended up winning a big prize.
“I thought it was $5,000, and it ended up being $50,000. I’m just like, ‘Whoa!’” Jones told lottery employees Monday as she claimed her prize at the lottery’s regional office in Mason City.
Jones, who is self-employed, said she thought the store clerk was joking with her when he said that she’d won.
“What made me kind of realize that he wasn’t lying was he said, ‘It’s a big a winner. If it wasn’t I wouldn’t have this big huge receipt thing.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh my!’” she said.
When her winning ticket was confirmed by the lottery Jones said she didn’t know how to react.
“One minute you’re scared and the next minute you’re happy,” she said.
Jones said her lottery winnings will be used toward a previously scheduled trip to the Bahamas next month.
Congratulations Corey, if anyone needs this, its you and your family. I will be at your doorstep for a loan, you know how the servantez’s and jones work. Tell Lony, we give no boot. Or maybe we can have a hog roast. we need a hog, but not have lony help. He knows what I mean. Again congratulations.
