CLEAR LAKE – Two suspects wanted by Michigan police in connection to a homicide were nabbed by Clear Lake police Tuesday evening.
On December 19, 2023 around 6:30 p.m., 50-year-old Margaret Anne Rose Kempainen (pictured above) and 20-year-old Jacob Alan Charles Kempainen, both from Hartland, Wisconsin were taken into custody by the Clear Lake Police Department, at the request of the Houghton County Michigan Sheriff’s Office (HCSO). Both are suspects in a homicide investigation HCSO is conducting.
Just after 6 p.m., Clear Lake officers were contacted by HCSO requesting assistance with the homicide investigation. HCSO had developed information that the suspects were armed and dangerous, and currently in the Clear Lake area.
Around 6:24 p.m. Clear Lake officers located the suspects at a local gas station. Officers detained the suspects without incident.
Margaret and Jacob Kempainen are currently in custody at the Cerro Gordo County Jail awaiting extradition to Houghton County, Michigan on one count of homicide each.
The Clear Lake Police Department was assisted by Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, and the Garner Police Department at the scene.
