Ice cream treats help people beat the heat at Big Blue

by Jody Spear and Kelly Meyer –

MASON CITY – The kids that were at Big Blue Friday afternoon were beating the 100+ degree temperatures in an enjoyable way.

Whether they were swimming, tanning, tubing or diving, the water was keeping their body temperatures down.

As an added bonus, Eric Perry was there with his Tasty Treats truck helping keep their insides cool, too.  His goodies are pre-packed novelty items at -20 degrees.

“It’s meant to help you finish it before it melts,” Eric said.

Perry, a Clear Lake high school teacher, is in his third year running his ice cream truck.  He has permits to sell in Mason City, Clear Lake and Ventura.

Some youngsters were eating ice cream, popsicles or a character special.  So many choices, the young people were having a good time beating the heat.
