MASON CITY – Shortly before 6pm on July 4th, 18-year-old Gage Nolan Shafer of 22246 315TH Street of rural Plymouth turned himself in at the Cerro Gordo County Law Enforcement Complex on two warrants that had been issued for his arrest the week before.
Warrants were issued on June 28th for Shafer’s arrest charging him with once Class D felony count of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and a simple misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
The criminal complaints came from the Clear Lake Police Department following a April 27th incident. Court records also show Clear Lake police executed a search warrant on Shafer on May 18th.
On July 5th Magistrate Ronald J. Wagenaar dropped a $5,000 bond and released Shafer from custody with sanctions. A preliminary hearing has been set for July 20th at 8:30am. Magistrate Wagenaar also denied Shafer’s financial application for court appointed council.
SUBJECT IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.

I don’t mind having a drink or 2, but if I do even 1 I will not drive, it will be at home. Besides the fact that as of right now alcohol is legal and pot is not, what you do in your own home is your own business but once you take it out on the road that so called buzz could endanger others. You may say I am alright to drive, the man that killed my fiance said he was alright to drive even though he crossed the center line and hit her head on. I will not judge anybody what they do in their home but if they are buzzed or drunk and driving, you get what you deserve.
