Clear Lake woman to stand trial for drunk driving, eluding and 17 traffic violations

CLEAR LAKE – A Clear Lake woman who allegedly eluded justice for months on drunk driving and many other charges before her arrest this past December after a wild summer interaction with police has entered a not-guilty plea and awaits trial.

On December 29, 2019, Kari L. Fodor, age 35, from Clear Lake was arrested for OWI 1st and Eluding from an incident occurring on August 19, 2019. Fodor was also charged with 17 traffic violations. The charges were filed after lab results were received in December. The results indicated Fodor was under the influence of alcohol and prescription drugs during the August incident in Clear Lake.

On August 19, 2019, around 11:50 PM, Clear Lake officers responded to a 911 call about a possible intoxicated driver in the 1200 block of South Shore Drive. When an officer arrived at the location, he found the suspected vehicle traveling over twice the posted 25 mph speed limit. When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle operated by Fodor, fled from the officer.

Fodor eventually pulled into a parking lot in the 1400 block of N 24th Street and ran from her vehicle. Fodor’s vehicle was not in park and continued to move in the parking lot where it struck a parked car. The officer chased Fodor on foot for a short distance before catching and detaining her.

Fodor sustained a laceration to her head, prior to the officer catching up with her, that required medical attention. She was transported by Clear Lake EMS to Mercy One of North Iowa in Mason City.

CLPD was assisted at the scene by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office and the Clear Lake Fire Department.

Fodor has entered a not-guilty plea in this case. She has beeb scheduled for a jury trial on June 9, 2020. A pre-trial conference is set for May 18.
