DES MOINES – Three major college basketball teams from the state of Iowa will all have a shot at the NCAA title this year.
The Iowa State Cyclones were selected with a #4 seed and a school-record fifth-consecutive berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Cyclones (21-11, 10-8 Big 12) battled their way through the nation’s toughest conference to earn the No. 4 seed in the Midwest Region and will face No. 13 seed Iona (22-10, 16-4 MAAC) Thursday, March 17 in Denver, Colorado.
The Iowa Hawkeyes were selected with a #7 seed and will play in the tournament for the third year in a row. The Hawkeyes (21-10, 12-6 Big Ten) will play in the South Regional and tip-off against #10 Temple on Friday Brooklyn, New York.
The Northern Iowa Panther were selected with a #11 seed. The Panthers (22-12) will play the Texas Longhorns in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament. The game will be played Friday at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Kansas was the overall #1 seed and will be playing in Des Moines next week.
