NC & MN Dem workers ratify union contracts; MN workers get overtime pay

NORTH CAROLINA & MINNESOTA — Workers for two statewide coordinated campaigns have negotiated collective bargaining agreements with their respective state parties.

“We are proud to have come together with overwhelming support from the Campaign Workers Guild and the North Carolina Democratic Party. Their commitment to this process cannot be overstated.” said Grayson Barnette, Field Organizer for the North Carolina Democratic Party’s Break the Majority coordinated campaign and a bargaining team member.

“We are proud of what we were able to finally secure for our workers in this contract, which includes wins like a pay raise, protected time off, and more reasonable working hours and conditions,” said Kim Huls, Field Organizer for the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) and member of CWG’s bargaining team. Isuru Herath, DFL Regional Organizing Director and fellow bargaining team member added, “The contract we settled with the DFL not only sets nationwide precedent for what campaign workers could win, but also creates a path for workers and American labor unions to rebuild our collective power.”

“North Carolina’s Break the Majority workers have become the first coordinated campaign workers to unionize in the South. They join workers from the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party and the Campaign for Ohio in unionizing during this midterm election cycle,” said Ihaab Syed, Secretary of the Campaign Workers Guild. “As of today, 28 groups of workers have been represented by the Campaign Workers Guild in our first year,” said Meg Reilly, Campaign Workers Guild Vice President.

The Campaign Workers Guild is a national independent union representing non-management workers on electoral and issue-based campaigns.
