Mason City man facing theft, assault charges

MASON CITY – A Mason City man is facing theft and assault charges at this time after keeping Mason City police busy in recent weeks.

Tyler Anton Meuer, 23, is facing a third degree theft charge from a June 23rd incident where Mason City police said he was arrested after allegedly trespassing at the pool that day at 5:23 PM. Meuer had allegedly stolen a bicycle from the pool.  Pool employees had convinced Meuer to discard the bicycle but only after Meuer allegedly removed some part(s) from the bike. When officers arrested Meuer in East Park near the deer pen, he was found in possession of the missing part(s).  Meuer was arrested and jailed for Trespass and 3rd Degree Theft that day.  Meuer faces a preliminary hearing in court on July 19th on that charge.

In addition, police reported that a person decided to press charges against Meuer for an assault that was initially reported on July 14th. “Because there were visible injuries, Meuer was charged with Serious Assault,” officer Mike McKelvey stated. “Meuer and the victim know each other and the assault occurred in the victim’s residence at the (500 block) of East State Street.”

The assault charge comes just days after Meuer and two other man took a baby in a stroller down a steep hill while running from police on July 8th. In that incident, Meuer was caught hiding in an apartment complex and charged with public intoxication and interference with official acts. The infant was released to the mother who was in the apartments.

Meuer posted $1,000.00 cash/surety bond and was released from jail.

Meuer, who was paroled from prison last year, has been in the news for various alleged crimes in recent years, including intimidation with a dangerous weapon.
