MASON CITY – A Mason City man with a long criminal history has been sent to jail for a week for choking a person.
Chad Duane Dean, age 42, was charged with serious assault following an altercation at a local residence in the 300 block of 9th Street NE on April 11, 2017. The victim was choked during the incident, police chief Jeff Brinkley tells NIT. Dean later entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to 7 days in jail and must pay $700.75 in fines and court fees. A felony first-degree burglary charge was dropped in the deal.
In June of 2016, Dean was wanted on arrest warrants and was reported to be at the (former) Kum & Go station, 418 South Federal, around 10:18 PM; a number of officers responded. As officers attempted to take him into custody, Dean interfered with arresting law enforcement personnel and caused at least one person to be injured. He was charged with interference with official acts causing bodily injury and was later guilty of that charge. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail.
Dean has been in and out of prison and the Beje Clark halfway house for years, records show, and has absconded and violated his parole on a number of occasions.
