News & Entertainment for Mason City, Clear Lake & the Entire North Iowa Region

Op-ed: Observations (by Peter Children)

We are on the downward slide of summer; I figure the 4thof July as being the pinnacle and as the pendulum moves it begins its downward slide.  We just emerged from an inferno of blistering heat, but it seems to have subsided for now. This winter we will remember it fondly.

The city is very quiet, with of course the exception of the North End.  That seems to be the center of interest right now; the most recent being a stabbing at North Side Liquors.  I am sure there is undercover work underway to  settle those issues; our police department never sleeps.By reading the Internet I have learned that Rihanna is afraid to fall in love again; you can learn a lot by reading.I have also learned that the Behms have secured another delay in their up coming trial that will focus on alleged theft from the Mason City Ford Agency and the part they are accused of playing in that sordid affair.  I think the longer they can postpone, the longer they can try and negotiate some sort of equable settlement.  This seems to have been a very long and on going affair, one that possibility could have started when the La Frenz family owned the agency.  If found to be true it could have been the main factor in why the family was forced to sell the agency; this in turn will lead to more lawsuits seeking reprisals.  In Iowa you can own a home, forty sheep, two goats and 50 chicken and a donkey, and if you’re left handed and under 5 foot tall you can include a pickup truck to that list; this is all  free from any liens and other encumbrances; so the trick is to live in expensive homes so one on can touch your equity or get your ass.

Overall the city is calm, Eric is in a re-election mode I have been informed, this from sources  deep inside 5-East.  I miss the drunken displays of public arrogance we were subjected to for months, now it is almost like he went underground.  People were talking about the first no vote coming from Kuhn. It was similar to a electric shock…personally I think it was well choreographed. The no vote was meaningless in the overall scheme, it didn’t change anything….don’t be fooled. That entire council should be booked into a comedy club because they are nothing more than a bad joke in this town………
