Hampton man killed when pickup collides with semi

HAMPTON - A Hampton man was killed when his pickup collided with a semi Wednesday afternoon.

HAMPTON – A Hampton man was killed when his pickup collided with a semi Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. At 1:35 PM that afternoon, a 2003 GMC Sierra pickup driven by 54-year-old Robert Dietz of Hampton was traveling westbound on Highway 3 in Franklin county near Lark Avenue. The pickup crossed the center line and struck the front trailer axle of a 2022 Freightliner semi and trailer, driven by 53-year-old Andrew Stansbury of Eldora.

As a result of the collision, Dietz was killed.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Hampton Police Department, Hampton Fire Department, Franklin General Ems, E & E Repair, Mason’s Auto, and Woodley Funeral Home.
