DES MOINES – Progress Iowa Executive Director Matt Sinovic issued the following statement in response to Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley beginning his 99 County Tour across the state”
“Senator Grassley claims his annual tour helps him stay connected with Iowans, but we know his tour is a complete fake and that he remains sorely out of touch with too many of us. Grassley has avoided meeting with the public in Iowa’s most populated counties for years. He hasn’t held an open to the public town hall in Polk or Linn county in more than a decade. We need transparency in government, not a Senator who limits public input from those who disagree with him. It’s no secret why Grassley would avoid public scrutiny. He has voted repeatedly to repeal the Affordable Care Act, despite a record number of Americans signing up for the program. Iowans deserve a senator who believes affordable, quality healthcare should be accessible to everyone. At the same time, Grassley continues to try and silence our voices, by attacking our freedom to vote. Iowans want their votes to count, and it’s time Senator Grassley votes to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to ensure that trusted local election officials count every vote, and prevent partisan politicians from sabotaging the results of our elections. It’s time for Senator Grassley to do his job. He needs to vote in the best interests of his constituents, and face the public in every county in the state. Iowans deserve far better than another year of a ‘Fake Grassley’ tour.”
Progress Iowa is a multi-issue progressive advocacy organization.
Charles Grassley has been in elected office in Iowa since the 1950’s. Although calling for term limits, he is shamelessly running for re-election once again. He has collected millions of dollars over the decades in government handouts including government paychecks and farm subsidies (socialism).
