Man who allegedly tried to murder two Chicago cops caught in Iowa

BURLINGTON – A man who allegedly tried to murder two Chicago cops was caught Wednesday in Iowa.

The Burlington Police Department, Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office, West Burlington Police Department, and the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force assisted the Chicago, Illinois Police Department and the Great lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force in arresting Jabari Edwards, age 28 of Chicago. The arrest was made in the 2500-block of Washington Street in Burlington without incident.

Jabari Edwards is being held at the Des Moines County Correctional Center without bond on two counts of first-degree attempted murder of a police officer in Cook County Illinois (Chicago). Edwards allegedly shot a Chicago cop during a traffic stop in June. Fox 32 Chicago reported that “Two officers in a marked squad car were attempting to pull over a vehicle when the offending vehicle sped up and then slowed down, allowing the officers to pull alongside. The suspects then started firing into the police vehicle.” A female officer, who was driving, was struck in the head by gunfire. “Her partner then got behind the wheel and drove her to the University of Chicago Medical Center.”

The shooting took place 4 months after prosecutors dropped a felony gun case against Edwards.
