
NIACC opened its 2026 season with a 3-0 win over Lake Michigan College. The Trojans won by the scores of 25-23, 25-22, 25-12.
In its second match Friday, NIACC dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 13 (NJCAA Division II) Grand Rapids CC, which won 25-14, 26-24, 25-15.
“It was a good day to get some nerves out of our system,” NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. “(Saturday) we need to work on the application of skills and be able to string more consecutive points together.”
In the two matches on Friday, sophomore captain Brielle Volker led the Trojans with 20 kills, 16 digs and four ace serves. Sophomore captain Bailey Dagestad had nine kills, two digs and one block.
NIACC freshman Camrie Macal contributed nine kills and one block, freshman Abby Schoning had 21 assists, six digs and two ace serves, sophomore Alva Fraenkel had 16 assists, six digs and one ace serve and sophomore Carissa Timmerman had 18 digs, six assists and four ace serves.
Also for the Trojans, freshman Paige Coon had 13 kills, one dig and one block. Sophomore Kayden Muller had 14 digs and five ace serves and freshman Shelby Vogel had six kills and two digs.
On Saturday, the Trojans play No. 4 (NJCAA Division II) Kansas City (Kan.) CC at 8 a.m. and Mott CC at 2:15 p.m.
