CHAPEL HILL, NC – Mike Gesell scored Iowa’s final 5 points in tonight’s triumph at No. 12 North Carolina, an important resume-builder for the Hawkeyes.
The game was a part of the ACC-Big 10 Challenge, and Iowa’s victory assured the Big Ten would win the contest between the two conferences.
“That was a big road win for our team. It’s back to work tomorrow,” Gesell said after the game.
Iowa led for most of the first half but fell behind in the second half before Gesell left them back.
Iowa forward Aaron White said the victory is a “Big time win. So happy and proud of our guys.”
Former Iowa high school player and pre-season All-American guard Marcus Paige for North Carolina was just 4 of 16 from the floor and didn’t have an assist in the game.
Iowa is 2-0 all time in games played in Chapel Hill. The last win came in 1989 when Roy Marble led Iowa to the victory.
