MASON CITY – A Mason City car dealership is building a new showroom on its property.
Platinum Motors, located at 145 6th Street SW, is building a new dealership and showroom at its location where it has been in business for about three years.
Rick and Shelly VanDusseldorp are the business owners. Today, Rick told NIT that they needed more office space for their business. The new building will also be a showroom for higher end cars they will be offering for sale, such as BMW, Mercedes, Lexus and other top brand names.
“We want to keep them inside, out of the elements, protect them from scratches,” Rick said. “We really needed the space. As you could see before, our office was just too small.” Their former office was inside the tiny gray and red building on the east side of the property, which a city official says will be removed later. The new showroom is going on the former parking lot to the west.
Rick said he is excited to help upgrade the neighborhood with the brand new building.
“As a long-time Mason City resident, it is nice to make the neighborhood a little nicer,” he said.
A city official said that the VanDusseldorp’s did not approach the city for assistance or special help in upgrading their business.
Rick hopes the structure will be complete and his dealership will be up and running again at full strength by February. He invited NIT to come by the at that time and do another story and take some pictures of the completed structure.
