NEW YORK – You burn the flag, you pay a price – so decreed President-elect Donald J. Trump Tuesday morning, offering a possible one-year jail term for offenders.
It’s always been a no-no to desecrate the American flag here in this country, and the red, white and blue has certain handling instructions that show honor to it. For example, the American flag should not touch the ground, be stepped on, and so forth. Nothing gets a red-blooded American’s blood boiling quicker than TV newscasts showing disgruntled Millenials blocking a freeway with Old Glory under their feet.

Perhaps capitalizing on this pervasive feeling, President-elect Donald Trump decreed Tuesday morning that “Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag.”
Going a step further, Trump laid down the gauntlet and offered that there could be stiff consequences for anyone brave enough to blaze up.
“If they do, there must be consequences – perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail!” Trump said via social media.
There was a big reaction to Trump’s words.
Some agreed, saying “ZERO TOLERANCE” while another said “Let’s put Americans who own flags on a registry so we can make sure they’re taking care of their flags.”
What do you think of President-elect Trump’s idea to punish flag burners?
