LIME SPRINGS — LaCinda Ann Altman, 69, of Lime Springs, passed away September 10, 2026, leaving behind a large family and a legacy built around children, grandchildren and a special handmade tradition she carried on for every new baby in the family.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 19, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lakefield, Minnesota. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service, beginning at 1 p.m. at the church. LaCinda will be laid to rest at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Lakefield.
LaCinda Ann Burmeister was born May 21, 1957, in Heron Lake, Minnesota, to Albert “Abbie” and Marianne Gott Burmeister.
She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church north of Lakefield and attended Immanuel Lutheran School and Lakefield High School.
On September 28, 1974, LaCinda married Wayne Altman. Their life together grew to include three children, Galen, Tracy and Troy, along with 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
LaCinda held a variety of jobs through the years. She worked at Immanuel Lutheran Church and School in Lakefield, Sperry in Jackson, Minnesota, and Bell Atlantic in Minneapolis.
She also spent many years operating an in-home daycare in Lakefield, caring for children as part of her everyday life. Before retiring, LaCinda worked for Howard County in Iowa.
Family remained at the center of her life.
LaCinda especially treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of her most meaningful traditions was making a baby receiving blanket for each new baby welcomed into the family — a personal gift that became part of the family’s story through the generations.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Altman of Lime Springs; her mother, Marianne Burmeister; children Galen (Theresa) Altman of East Bethel, Minnesota, and Tracy (Cory) Vrieze of Carpio, North Dakota; and daughter-in-law Krista Lee of Lakeville, Minnesota.
Her grandchildren are Odin (Rebecca), Tyr, Freya, Torunn and Ullr Altman; Kristopher (Dani Koppelsloen), Koda and Elizabeth Vrieze; and EmmaLynn and Colten Altman. Her great-grandchildren are Merlin Altman and Sage Vrieze.
LaCinda is also survived by sisters Rhonda (Pat) Waddell and Nichole (Scott) Kruse; brothers Joel (Deb) Burmeister, Jerel Burmeister and Alan Burmeister; sister-in-law Shelley Burmeister; brothers-in-law Dave Altman and Danny (Sheila) Altman; sisters-in-law Bonnie (Mike) Balcik and Rita Pavelko-Altman; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Troy; her father, Abbie Burmeister; brother Loren; parents-in-law Art and Rita Altman; grandparents Albert and Ida Burmeister and Charles and Ruby Gott; and other relatives.
