ESTHERVILLE — Sarah Jane Drossel, 39, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

A memorial service celebrating Sarah’s life will be held at a later date.

Sarah was born July 19, 1987, in Sioux City, the youngest child of Doug Drossel and Elizabeth Cloud Drossel.

She graduated from Cherokee High School before continuing her education in the nursing program at Iowa Lakes Community College.

Sarah went on to work at several nursing homes throughout Northwest Iowa over the years, putting her caring personality to work helping others. Most recently, she was employed by a janitorial company.

Away from work, Sarah had a creative side and enjoyed making things with her hands.

She loved sewing quilts and spending time cross-stitching. She also found peace outdoors, especially while hiking trails with her dogs.

Sarah also enjoyed deer hunting when she had the opportunity, although it was something she was not able to do as often as she would have liked.

Those who knew Sarah will remember her especially for her kind and sweet personality.

She is survived by her father, Doug Drossel; siblings Dakota (Dan) Stone, Karrie Olesen and James Drossel; nephew Josh Olesen; niece Jo Olesen; and many extended family members.

Sarah was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Drossel, who died in 2023, and her grandparents.

Additional information regarding Sarah’s memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Memories and condolences may be shared through Henry-Olson Funeral Home and Crematory.
