Harkin Introduces Legislation to Raise Minimum Wage to $9.80

WASHINGTON – On July 26th, Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, introduced the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2012.  The bill would raise the minimum wage to $9.80 per hour.  Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.), the senior Democratic member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, introduced companion legislation in the United States House of Representatives today.
“It is long past time to establish a fair minimum wage in our country.  It is good for families, good for business and good for our economy, and, most importantly, it is the right thing to do,” said Harkin. “People who work hard for a living should not have to live in poverty.  I am proud to introduce this bill today, to raise the minimum wage, and to help tens of millions of workers and their families.”
The bill will increase the minimum wage in three steps from $7.25 to $9.80 per hour over the next two years and will index the minimum wage to inflation thereafter so that it keeps up with the rising cost of living.  For the first time in more than twenty years, it will raise the minimum wage for tipped workers, with a more gradual increase from $2.13 per hour to a level that is 70 percent of the full minimum wage, or around $6.85 per hour.
The legislation is based on Harkin’s Rebuild America Act, introduced in March.

HARKIN – a house in the BAHAMAS – obviously UN-AMERICAN ! How many CAYMAN bank accounts does he maintain?

TERM LIMITS will solve most of the problems in DC – get rid of the “good old boys club” !

Lets extend the term limits requirement to every last one of them including Sen. Grassley. This guy has taken millions in farm aid over the years to benefit three generations of Grassley agricultural interests. Now his grandson is getting farmers welfare. Do a quick fact check if you dont believe me.

The Democrats introduce laws to buy votes without any thought to what it will do to our economy.

Yes, Harkin is an idiot and more UN-American then most Senators.

We are living in deflationary times. Government handouts and stimulus cause inflation and so will Harkin’s political move to raise the minimum wage.

We are competing on the world stage and labor rates are a huge part of this. We all want higher wages however Harkin would better serve the people of America if he would introduce laws that pushed for lower prices on food and gasoline.

I am tired of the politics! Senator Harkin should never have been re-elected!

Maybe the idiot thinks this will help people pay for there Obama care. He must of pulled his head out of the sand in the Bahamas to think of that.

You must HAVE not pulled your head out of an English text book to comment. Spare us next time.

The problem with people like you. Is there to stupid to form a opinion on there own. You would be better off just crawling back under your rock.
