AMES – Social media users may notice a bit of a different spin on the Iowa Department of Transportation’s X (Twitter) account (@iowadot) this morning, after it was hijacked by hackers.
It appears the @IowaDOT X account was compromised overnight – and remains hijacked this morning.
“We have reached out to X to regain control,” the Iowa DOT explained. “They are working to restore our account as quickly as possible.
“This issue relates only to this specific social media account and no other systems are involved.”
A visit to the Iowa DOT’s Twitter page (https://twitter.com/IowaDOT) shows a totally different type of account, for Renzo, some type of crypto scam investment.
Elon Musk wasn’t immediately available for comment.
