Update: 6th Street SW Utility and Street Improvements Project

MASON CITY – On Tuesday October 30th, the intersection of Tyler Avenue will be closed to traffic for approximately three days for the replacement of a sanitary sewer manhole and a water valve. The remaining utility work between Fillmore and Monroe Avenues will then consist of primarily replacement of storm sewer structures. The remaining storm sewer structures are located at the intersections of Van Buren, Polk, and Jackson Avenues.

The contractor will be replacing curb and gutter, and sidewalk along the south side of the street between Jackson Avenue and the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR). They will also continue the reconstruction of pedestrian ramps at intersections in coordination with the storm sewer work being performed.

The paving contractor is expected to mobilize on November 5th to begin pavement scarification in the areas east and west of the UPRR line. Resurfacing of the street will follow the scarification process.

Traffic will experience interruptions and some inconveniences along 6th Street SW during these working operations. Please reduce your speed and remain alert if traveling through the construction zone, for your safety and that of the construction worker.

Direct any questions to the Engineering Department at 421-3605.
