Early morning traffic stop leads to felony drug charges

A traffic stop shortly before 2:30am near the intersection of 2nd Street Northeast and North Connecticut Avenue led to an arrest on two felony drug charges for an 18-year-old Mason City resident Tuesday morning.

According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s media incident report search warrants were excited by local law enforcement at 1009 Kentucky Ave South, and 634 Carolina Ave South in Mason City following the traffic stop.

As a result of the incident and evidence found 18-year-old Robert David Ermer was booked into the Cerro Gordo County jail on one class C felony count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. The controlled substance is alleged to cocaine.

Ermer was also charged with one class D felony count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. The second alleged substance is not listed under Ermer’s charge and court records have not been updated at this time.

A defendant convicted of a class C felony faces a maximum of ten years in prison. The sentence may be deferred or suspended, except for a forcible felony. Fines range from a minimum of $1,000 to a maximum of $10,000.

A defendant convicted of a class D felony faces a maximum of five years in prison. The sentence may be deferred or suspended, except for a forcible felony. Fines range from a minimum of $750 to a maximum of $7,500.

Early Wednesday morning Robert Ermer is still being held in the Cerro Gordo County jail on $15,000 cash or surety bond.
