WEST DES MOINES - A teen got well-deserved surprise from a state trooper for zooming through a dangerous Iowa road construction zone.

WEST DES MOINES – A teen got well-deserved surprise from a state trooper for zooming through a dangerous Iowa road construction zone.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the incident took place over the weekend in a treacherous area of Interstate 80 and Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines. Trooper Shyann Warrick stopped a vehicle (pictured above, via @IowaStatePatrol) operated by a 16-year-old person. The patrol says the driver was racing along at 86 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone.

“Fines double in construction zones,” the patrol stated. “Total Citation $1,532.75.”

This area can be especially clogged with cars traveling into the Des Moines metro area, usually at speeds exceeding 70 to 75 miles per hour. The area is under construction at this time.

Just the day before this traffic stop, the patrol said, “there was a fatal crash near this EXACT same area. MANY crashes are preventable. We need drivers to make sure they’re being responsible on Iowa roadways!”
