FAYETTE COUNTY – This Iowa road construction worker fresh off probation for violent crimes allegedly assaulted his co-worker, police say.

On August 15, 2025, at approximately 9:00 AM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received an assault call for an incident located at 210th Street and K Avenue. During the investigation, it was discovered that 34-year-old Cody Bauer of Dubuque, Iowa, had assaulted another road construction crew member.

As a result of the investigation, Bauer was taken into custody on the following charge:

– ASSAULT WITH INTENT TO CAUSE PAIN/INJURY (SIMPLE MISDEMEANOR)

Bauer (pictured at top) was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he awaited his initial appearance. He quickly bonded out of jail after a not-guilty plea and was given a public defender. He now awaits a September 24 hearing.

According to records, Bauer was discharged from probation after earlier committing the crimes of felony willful injury and domestic abuse (charge dropped in plea deal). Bauer was put on probation for 5 years in 2021, but in 2024, records show he was discharged from it. He had avoided a 5-year prison term. The case cost him $10,962.50 owed to Iowa courts, which he already paid in full.  Records further indicate that Bauer has been convicted earlier of felony drug crimes and willful injury, among other cases, such as drunk driving and public intoxication.
