Former NBA star Tracy Murray to appear in Mason City at sports festival

MASON CITY, IA – Ernest “The Cat” Miller, former WCW Superstar and commissioner of the inaugural River City Sports Festival [RCSF], today announced that Tracy Murray, former UCLA college and National Basketball Association [NBA] star, will appear at the amateur multi-sport competition, May 9–11, 2014, in Mason City, Iowa, during the 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. Team competition information and registration can be found at www.rcsportsfestival.com.

Murray earned a reputation as one of the NBA’s best shooters during his 15-year professional career, which included stints with the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets, where he was a member of the 1994-95 NBA World Championship team. Today, Murray splits his time as a motivational speaker for youths and professionals, as well as running annual youth basketball camps, and serves as an analyst with the UCLA Sports Network for all games during the Bruin’s basketball season.

“With the on-going popularity of the NBA, March Madness, and the swelling support for 3-on-3 basketball at the Olympics in 2016, we have a win-win scenario here with Tracy coming by as our special guest,” Miller said. “He is an ultimate motivator and proactive pillar in the community. He brings nothing but class to the basketball competition and the RCSF. We are very grateful to have him here as a role model for the amateur athletes taking part in our sporting event.”

Along with basketball, the three-day RCSF event will feature archery, dance, karate, power lifting, roller derby, softball, tennis and wrestling for both individual and team competitors. Competitions will be held at the North Iowa Area Community College [NIACC] complex, while Mason City Parks and Recreation will host the softball and tennis tournaments and the Mohawk Archery Club will host the archery contests. Registration and more competition information for all the tournaments are available at www.rcsportsfestival.com.

Miller and Ronin’ Productions, in partnership with the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the North Iowa Sports Authority, recently kicked-off a campaign offering free tickets for “Rumble in River City,” the event’s headlining pro wrestling spectacular May 10 at NIACC. Tickets are now available for the first 1,000 competitors registering in advance for RCSF.
