FOREST CITY — Waldorf University and the Forest City community have unveiled new artificial turf at Bolstorff Field, completing a major athletic facility improvement designed to serve college athletes, local students and the surrounding community.
The new playing surface was formally dedicated during Waldorf’s Community Night on Saturday, September 12.
The turf project received support from Dennis Busta and Mary Jo Hanson Boman, a 1957 Waldorf graduate, through the Hanson Family Foundation.
The Waldorf Gridiron Club funded the Waldorf athletic logo installed at the center of the field. Additional project support came from the Forest City Community School District, City of Forest City, ISG architects, the W Club, Team Spirit donors and a grant from the Worth County Development Authority.
“We are fortunate to have a facility like Bolstorff Field that serves Waldorf University, Forest City Schools and the entirety of Forest City,” Waldorf University President Bob Alsop said.
Alsop described the project as an example of what can happen when organizations and community members work together on improvements that benefit students.
“We are grateful to everyone who helped make this new field possible and are excited to see it used for years to come,” Alsop said.
Bolstorff Field is shared by Waldorf University and Forest City schools, making the new turf an investment in both collegiate and local athletics.
The project is part of a broader effort known as the Homefield Advantage Fundraising Campaign, which supports improvements to athletic facilities used by Waldorf University and the Forest City Community School District.
Future projects envisioned through the campaign include renovating the press box, constructing a new sidewalk leading to the visitor bleachers and purchasing new field benches for the home and visiting teams.
Supporters interested in contributing to the next round of improvements may visit the Homefield Advantage Fundraising Campaign.
