CLEAR LAKE – Country music singer Gary Allan thrilled the Surf Ballroom crowd with his performance Friday night. Lines formed outside well over an hour before doors opened at 8:00pm, despite temps outside still over 90 degrees at that point. Concert goers were excited to see the country superstar live in action.

Once inside, country music lovers mingled and enjoyed a few songs from opening band Hitchville. Members Heidi, Kirk, and Matt performed an acoustic set while the audience tweeted their selfies using #surfinwgary hoping to see themselves up on the flatscreen.

Allan, described as a “modern day maverick”, brought his “gritty” vocals, his trademark swagger and down-home country music in a nearly 2-hour performance with no breaks. The crowd sang along with his well-known hits, enjoyed hearing his newer releases, and chanted for an encore when the band left the stage for the evening.

Allan has sold over 7 million albums and has 5 #1 hits, kept listeners engaged with rapt attention as he belted out his big hits and newer tunes like “Hangover Tonight”. One concert attendee who was plesantly surprised at how many of Allan’s songs she recognized said “Wow, I didn’t even realize how big of a fan I really am!”

The night culminated with a little two-stepping, a dance floor covered in empty beer cans, and a still energetic Allan rolling up his sleeves to share a couple more of his new tracks with the cheering fans.
