Man pleads guilty to burglarizing MC business

MASON CITY – A Marshalltown man has pled guilty to burglarizing a Mason City business and awaits sentencing.

Hussein Jamal Muwonge, age 26, was apprehended by police on the early morning of March 16 at about 2:16 AM when he attempted to burglarize Charlie’s Auto at 818 South Federal Avenue. He pled guilty on September 15 and awaits a sentencing hearing on October 27. He faces a maximum prison term not to exceed 5 years and a fine of at least $750 but no more than $7,500.

Muwonge is now awaiting transport to Polk county to face an October 13 trial on third offense operating while intoxicated, a class D felony. If convicted, he faces a minimum 30 days in jail and $2,500 fine, maximum of no more than five years in prison and $7,500 fine.

Muwonge had a felony theft charge against him dismissed in 2011, and plead guilty to third degree theft in Marshall county last year.
