Mason City library to replace chairs in commons area at no cost

MASON CITY – The manufacturer who supplied the chairs for the Mason City Library after its renovation will be replacing the chairs at no cost to the library.

MCPL Director Mary Markwalter addressed the question she has apparently heard a few times: “Why is the Mason City Public Library is getting new furniture in the Commons Area of the Library so soon after the building renovation?”

Markwalter explained what happened to the original chairs (see photo, right):  “The Library chairs need to hold up to public use and the original seafoam/blue lounge chairs in the Commons Area were not holding up.  The fabric was fraying at the seams on many of the chairs within two months after original delivery and installation. The new furniture is being provided free of charge from the chair manufacturer.  Unfortunately, the original seafoam/blue fabric for the Commons Area chairs is no longer available, therefore the Library Staff, Board members and others voted on the color and type of the fabric on the new replacement chairs.”
