DEA announces launch of Operation Crystal Shield, cracking down on methamphetamine trafficking transportation hubs

WASHINGTON – Drug Enforcement Administration Acting Administrator Uttam Dhillon today announced that the DEA will direct enforcement resources to methamphetamine “transportation hubs” — areas where methamphetamine is often trafficked in bulk and then distributed across the country. While continuing to focus on stopping drugs being smuggled across the border, DEA’s Operation Crystal Shield will ramp up enforcement to block their further distribution into America’s neighborhoods.

DEA has identified eight major methamphetamine transportation hubs where these efforts will be concentrated: Atlanta, Dallas, El Paso, Houston, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Phoenix, and St. Louis. Together, these DEA Field Divisions accounted for more than 75 percent of methamphetamine seized in the U.S. in 2019.

Operation Crystal Shield builds on existing DEA initiatives that target major drug trafficking networks, including the Mexican cartels that are responsible for the overwhelming majority of methamphetamine trafficked into and within the United States. From FY 2017 to FY 2019, DEA domestic seizures of methamphetamine increased 127 percent from 49,507 pounds to 112,146 pounds. During the same time frame, the number of DEA arrests related to methamphetamine rose nearly twenty percent.

“For decades meth has been a leading cause of violence and addiction – a drug threat that has never gone away. With a 22 percent increase in methamphetamine related deaths, now is the time to act and DEA is leading the way with a surge of interdiction efforts and resources, targeting regional transportation hubs throughout the United States. By reducing the supply of meth we reduce the violence, addiction, and death it spreads.”

Virtually all methamphetamine in the United States comes through major ports of entry along the Southwest Border and is transported by tractor trailers and personal vehicles along the nation’s highways to major transfer centers around the country. It is often found in poly-drug loads, alongside cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl.

SCAM!

I believe a “three strikes and you’re terminated” policy would be great for the users. It’s not hard to determine who they are. Dealers? Give them a 10 year sentence and let them go.

So, anonymous, which is it, you are a meth dealer or a meth user, or both?

I suggest terminating all meth dealers on the spot. No jail time, no court time, instant termination.

And if we are mistaken about it? Just a little collateral damage I guess. No big deal, eh Allen?

get in line.

Who’s “we”?

We would probably be whoever Allen decided to anoint as executioner.

somebody gotta do it

he’s the official “know-it-all”

So then, what are you trying to prove.

After all the time and money expended so far, do they really think they will accomplish anything? As long as there are people who are going to use drugs, they will be around. And all of these “feel good” operations will accomplish absolutely nothing. As long as the demand is there, the supply will always fill the need.

They better not start this until after November or the Republicans are going to lose a lot of voters.

not to worry the democrats already know who is going to win their nomination cuz to them politics is just like all star wrestling. its all made up and they know the winner in advance. yes

It should worry you because Trump already is losing voters because of his stupidity, and if he loses all his stupid voters, then not much is left.

Man I love that you republicans think that way, makes it all the better for the democrats to win with that kind of mindset on you guys. Please keep it up and thanks in advance.

Half a million new manufacturing jobs and two blockbuster trade deals later, President Trump is proving the real magic is keeping your promises, and unleashing the American spirit of resilience and optimism.

Bernie will probably want to legalize this too. You must be so proud of your home-grown socialist tard.

Democrats need people divided, groups of people are easier to manipulate than large numbers of individuals. The alternative would be trying to win people over with failed policies that empower elites at the expense of individuals, and that’s still a tougher sell.

Meth heads are they ones that like to NOT work and live on the government programs. Most of them are Democrats.

Using 1970 as a cut off, how long have these cities been “Democrat”?

I couldn’t find lists for all cities, so I will leave them from the list. For arguments sake we’ll call them Republican.

Dallas 22 years Democrat, 14 years Republican, 15years other

Exception to the rule, “Houston- Why does Houston keep electing Democratic mayors? (all I could find) ”
Atlanta-1879-current 141 years

LA-Republican 8 years, Democrats since 7/1/1961 all but 8 years.(51 years so far)

New Orleans- Since 1872 148 years

St Louis- Democrat since 1949 71 years.

All I could find in the few minutes I looked was like 12 years worth for both Phoenix and El Paso. One had a Republican for the last 8 and the other was at the end of a 4 year with a Republican.

What this shows us is that the problem is the policies of the Democratic party.

I hope some of the cities the DEA intends to target with this operation, won’t jeopardize their “Sanctuary City” status. That would be a shame.

When do you figure they’ll be in Mason?

2- 2 1/2 YEARS

Meth is poison.
