MASON CITY – Project Manager Ryan McGreger and Project Engineer Rob West had their crew from Yohn Excavating, out of Clear Lake, working late Friday evening trying to complete 6th Street SW utility and street improvements.
It was approaching the seven o’clock hour and the men were still working hard at the intersection of 6th Street SW and S. Fillmore Avenue.
“We’re trying to beat the cold weather coming in,” said McGreger. “It’s a tricky project. We want to get it done for the people in this area, to make sure they have their water and utilities.”
The men in the heavy equipment were twisting, turning and pounding the machines that was making the ground vibrate. They looked like they wanted to get it done.

“We expect to have the project done and the road reopened by Wednesday,” said McGreger.
The City of Mason City said in a press release Friday that other sections of 6th SW would soon be under construction. The week of October 15th, 6th SW at Van Buren Avenue would be closed for the replacement of a sanitary sewer manhole, water valve, and storm intakes and the week of October 22nd, 6th SW and Tyler Avenue would be closed for the replacement of a sanitary sewer manhole and water valve.
The city also said that construction of sidewalk ramps will continue as the installation of storm sewer structures are completed.
