WATERLOO – A Black Hawk county jury this week convicted an Iowa Falls man of killing his 7-month-old daughter.
Trevor Eugene Smith, age 28, was charged with murder in the first degree and child endangerment stemming from an incident on September 26, 2012. Reportedly, Smith had been left alone with his daughter, who began to cry, and Smith proceeded to shake her, causing serious brain injuries. The infant was hospitalized after the mother came home from work and later placed on life support, which was shut off just days later.
A conviction of first degree murder in Iowa carries a mandatory life sentence in an Iowa penitentiary.

When is the population going to evolve out of their animal tendencies? When are they going to receive that “spark of consciousness” for self awareness and self reflection? @PHILLY-WOW-here we go again with you telling the rest of us what to believe in and how to live when you do not know how yourself. Now, I hate these baby killers. How can anyone kill a innocent baby? They should kill themselves just thinking about it. This is a good reason for capital punishment.
Clearly, the sentence of “Life in Prison” does not deter some folks–the murder numbers keep rising. I wish we could try throwing perps like this guy straight into a wood-chipper and see if that works to fight violent crime.You have to admit, it would leave a lasting impression.
