Two Hawkeye gymnasts consume too much booze, then busted

IOWA CITY – Two male Hawkeye gymnasts drank too much booze and were arrested this past weekend.

Records show that Andrew Mansour Botto, age 18, was arrested at DC’s Bar on April 26 for producing a fake ID, underage possession of alcohol, and for being in a bar after hours. Botto was on the Iowa dean’s list, records show, this past fall.

Also arrested was Emmanuel Monroy – age 20 and a pre-medicine major from Plano, Texas – at DC’s Bar. He was charged with interference with a police officer causing injury after he ran from officers, underage possession of alcohol, and for being in a bar after hours.

Both men bonded out of the Johnson County Jail, awaiting court dates.

“I was disappointed to learn of the events that occurred over the weekend. I am in the process of gathering all the facts of the situation,” their gymnastics coach said. “All involved will be held to our student-athlete Code of Conduct and our team rules.”
