Incumbent Iowa Rep. Steckman will run for re-election

MASON CITY – Iowa House Education Ranking Member and State Representative Sharon Steckman of Mason City announced today that she will seek a sixth term to House District 53, which includes Mason City, Rockwell and central Cerro Gordo County.

“I have been honored to represent the people of Cerro Gordo County and want to continue to work to make sure we prioritize education for all Iowans, pre K-12 and beyond. As a former educator, I see that setting our priorities in the Iowa House to put education first is essential to ensuring the success of our schools,” said Steckman.

Besides holding the position of Ranking Member of the Education Committee in the Iowa House, Steckman currently serves on Environmental Protection, Natural Resources and State Government Committees, as well as the Agriculture and Natural Resources Budget Subcommittee.

In years past, she has also served on Appropriations, Human Resources, Economic Growth, and Labor committees and as Vice-Chair of Education Appropriations Budget Subcommittee and as both an Assistant Minority Leader and a Assistant Majority Leader.

Steckman spent 30 years in the classroom, teaching second, fourth and fifth grade. After retiring from teaching in the Mason City School District, Sharon decided to continue exercising her passion for education and community affairs by running for a seat in the Iowa House of Representatives.

She is currently serving on Advisory Council for RSVP of North Central Iowa, the Iowa Commission for MHEC (Midwest Higher Education Compact), the state iJAG Board, and also on the local boards for Francis Lauer Services, and Una Vocis. She served on the Interim Legislative Tax Expenditure Commission and the Midwestern Higher Education Compact. She was a founding member of the State of Iowa STEM Council.

Sharon and her husband Alan (a Mason City School Board member), have been married 24 years and have four children and five grandchildren, and one great grandchild. She is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Barb Hovland time

No way. Hovland is too dumb. And she needs a new hair style.

Perfect example of the need for term limits. Steckman’s only concern is getting more money for public schools so she can get more contributions from teacher’s unions.
Keep feeding at the trough.

public servant – phooey – Public servant UNION employee – private sector be damned.

She has been in for to long already. Time for someone new.

I’ll tell you what my experience with her on this is. I’ve carried my Glock around her a few times, she knew I had it, and was perfectly ok with it. I’m not going to speak for her so that’s just my personal experience.

Sharon needs to clarify her position on the 2nd Amendment.

^^ Single issue voter.

Hey 2nd Amendment Watch, I too support the right to bear arms, but I don’t give a dam about Rep. Steckman’s position on the issue. As long as she continues to work on working people issues, I’ll support her. One issue politicians just don’t get it with me!!
