Worth County supervisors set budget amendment hearing, approve drainage actions at May 11 meeting

NORTHWOOD – The Worth County Board of Supervisors approved several drainage-related items, set a public hearing on a fiscal year 2026 budget amendment and approved a fireworks permit during its May 11 meeting.

Supervisors Mark Smeby, A.J. Stone and Enos Loberg were present. The meeting was called to order by Loberg and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. The board approved the day’s agenda and the May 4 meeting minutes.

The board approved a work order for Drainage District #11-G submitted by the Charles E. Stoffregen Trust. Supervisors also accepted a petition from Doug Meyer to annex a private lateral in Drainage District #11.

Supervisors accepted the Drainage District #46 Outlet report filed by Jon Rosengren of Bolton & Menk, Inc., and agreed to seek estimates to clean the ditch to the state line. The board also accepted Drainage District #18 Amendment No. 3, also filed by Rosengren, and set a Drainage District #18 hearing for 9:30 a.m. June 29.

The board approved claims totaling $393,789.11. Among the larger claims were $179,132 to Don’s Truck Sales, Inc. for equipment, $20,218.34 to S&H Environmental Services LLC, $19,627.70 to Veenstra & Kimm, Inc., $16,613.87 to Croell, Inc., $15,915.52 to Falkstone LLC and $10,800 to Gardiner + Company.

Supervisors approved monthly reports from the sheriff and clerk of court.

The board also approved seasonal secondary roads employees Randy Majewski at $19 per hour, effective May 15, and Scott Stumo at $19 per hour, effective June 1.

Other actions included approval of an ownership update to a Class “E” retail alcohol license for Maverik Group, LLC; a fireworks permit for the Willert & Drenth wedding reception on June 6 at 4211 Tulip Lane in Kensett; and a tentative agreement regarding the Worth County Contract Extension with AFSCME 2026.

Supervisors set the fiscal year 2026 budget amendment hearing for 9 a.m. May 26. They also approved an agreement engaging Northland Securities as underwriter and approved a Cost Advisory Services, Inc. contract to provide professional consulting services to Worth County.

The meeting adjourned at 9:34 a.m.
