ROCKWELL — Police in the small Northern Iowa community of Rockwell are asking for the public’s help identifying people suspected of prowling through mailboxes and stealing packages Wednesday afternoon.
The Rockwell Police Department said the alleged thefts occurred between approximately 4:45 and 4:51 p.m. on August 12, 2026.
The suspects (pictured at top, via Rockwell police) were reportedly seen near Elm Street West and First Street North in Rockwell, about 12 miles south of Mason City.
Police released a photograph of the individuals and are asking residents to take a close look. Authorities have not publicly identified the suspects, announced any arrests or disclosed how many packages may have been taken.
Anyone who recognizes the people pictured or has surveillance footage showing suspicious activity in the area should contact the Rockwell Police Department at 641-421-3001.
Residents near the affected streets may want to review doorbell cameras and other security recordings from shortly before and after the six-minute period identified by police. Members of the public should provide possible names or evidence directly to investigators rather than confronting anyone or posting unconfirmed identities online.
Mail theft has previously struck the region on a much larger scale. In 2016, NIT reported that postal investigators were examining a string of thefts involving as many as 100 North Iowa victims.
The people sought by Rockwell police are presumed innocent unless charged and proven guilty in court.
