MASON CITY — Sharri Lynn Dwan, 56, of Mason City, died Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at her home, leaving family and friends with memories of her cheerful personality, enthusiasm for new experiences and ability to find happiness in everyday life.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, August 17, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third Street NE in Mason City. Her funeral service will follow at noon at the chapel. Sharri will be laid to rest afterward at Memorial Park Cemetery, 11495 265th Street in Mason City. Memorials may be directed to One Vision.
Sharri was born September 17, 1969, in Cedar Rapids to Thomas and Lynn (Bigelow) Dwan. She graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids and found meaningful ways to stay involved and productive throughout her life.
She worked at IBM in Cedar Rapids, tackling several responsibilities and taking pride in learning new things. After moving to Mason City, Sharri worked with Comprehensive Systems through its sheltered workshop program.
Those who knew Sharri will remember someone who approached life with a smile. She was an Iowa Hawkeyes fan, enjoyed listening to musical recordings including “Oklahoma!,” and looked forward to outings with her caregivers.
Family trips were another important part of Sharri’s life. She enjoyed camping, sightseeing, museums and discovering unfamiliar places. One memorable adventure had her climbing the steps at Seven Falls. During a period when her family lived on an acreage in Montana, even riding an ATV to retrieve the mail became an experience she treasured.
Sharri was a member of First Assembly of God and participated in the Special Olympics. Her family remembers her as someone who embraced opportunities to get out, experience life and spend time with the people she loved.
She is survived by her parents, Tom and Lynn Dwan; brother Michael Dwan; sisters Debra Dwan and John Roederer, and Heather Wemmer; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.
