CHARLES CITY – Duane Diller Hansen, a Charles City man remembered for his work ethic, steady presence and devotion to family, died on May 5, 2026, with his family at his side. He was 83.

Hansen was born April 1, 1943, in Charles City to Hans and Rosalind Hansen. He graduated from Nashua High School in 1961.

That same year, Hansen met Linda Young at her family’s skating rink. The two were married in 1963 and went on to build a life centered around faith, family and hard work. Their marriage lasted 62 years.

Hansen and his wife raised three children, Jim, Gary and Teresa.

Over the years, Hansen was known as a dedicated worker. He spent 29 years at Oliver/White Farm before the plant closed. He later retired from Winnebago, but retirement did not keep him still for long. He returned to work at DFS in Charles City, where he spent his remaining working years.

Away from work, Hansen enjoyed slow-pitch softball and was remembered as a pitcher for Colwell, where he was known for a high-arching pitch. He also enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, pontoon rides and cheering for the Green Bay Packers. Game days often became “Packer Parties” with family, friends, food, music and laughter.

Those who knew Hansen remember his quiet strength, sense of humor and playful spirit.

He is survived by his sister, May Wilkinson; two children, Jim Hansen and his wife, Lori, and Teresa VanHauen and her husband, Dennie; four granddaughters, Tessa Weber, Jessica Mahnesmith-Rippentrop and her husband, Brandon, Desirae Reddel and her husband, Dalton, and Shantel Maloy and her husband, Aaron; and 10 great-grandchildren, Owen Weber, Talan Weber, Cooper Mahnesmith, Lincoln Mahnesmith, Dean Reddel, Viola Reddel, Lenora Rippentrop, Liam Maloy, Waylon Reddel and Emerley Maloy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Hansen; his parents; his twin brother, Dewitt Hansen; his sister, Mary Ann Parker; his son, Gary Hansen; his mother-in-law and father-in-law; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

A funeral service for Duane Hansen was held on May 9, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City. Visitation was held May 8, 2026, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City.
